Description:

You will have a background in research on and around AI for Health and have experience of working with healthcare data. You will also have experience of interdisciplinary collaboration, especially with STEM disciplines. During your three-year Fellowship you will work with the other CMI Fellows, the CMI Theme Leads, and the Centre Director to ensure that the CMI is at the forefront of AI research, innovation, and impact, nationally and internationally. In addition, you will deliver some teaching with an expectation of progression to Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the conclusion of your Fellowship, within an appropriate School, subject to completion of agreed objectives. You will receive a generous start-up package for travel and equipment.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct an innovative programme of research and scholarship in AI for Health, which is recognised nationally and internationally in terms of originality, significance and rigour.
  • Regularly publish in high-quality journals and at leading conferences.
  • Assist with developing funding strategies, pursue income generation, and manage external research grants.
  • Engage fully with the Centre for Machine Intelligence, working closely with the CMI theme lead in AI for Health, and regularly attend community events.
  • Develop the experience and skills needed to manage a research team.
  • Contribute to and build cross-disciplinary research activity.
  • Develop and deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as required.
  • Contribute to the organisation of seminars and workshops related to the CMI, fostering dissemination and networking opportunities.
  • Engage in public outreach and education to promote the CMI’s research and AI advancements to a wider audience.
  • Participate in professional activities (for example reviewing) and liaise with professional bodies in your specialist area.
  • Make ethical decisions in your role, modelling inclusive and collegiate behaviour and furthering the University’s equality, diversity, and inclusion objectives.

  • A PhD (or equivalent experience) in a relevant research area (assessed at application).

  • Evidence of potential to generate research income (assessed at application, presentation and interview).
  • Evidence of potential to become an effective teacher (assessed at presentation and interview).
  • Experience of collaborative and interdisciplinary research (assessed at application, presentation and interview).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with different audiences (assessed at presentation and interview).
