Salary: £31,406 - £33,309 with progression to £40,927

The Role

Over the last 18 months, we have reimagined the way we deliver our University IT Services, building a world-class IT department responsive to the needs of our global community. We’re growing significantly and we’ve created new opportunities and made changes to how we work. Our people have been at the centre of this change, with a particular focus on development and opportunities to learn new skills.

Academic IT is a new and exciting group within Newcastle University IT Service (NUIT). The group is responsible for looking after “non-standard” technologies which support research and teaching.

This role assists the support of Academic IT services for the University not covered elsewhere in Technology Operations with a particular focus on Level 3 support. It acts as a senior role within the Academic IT team taking responsibility for work output and scheduling of activity as well as delivering support themselves and ensuring that incidents and problems are dealt with effectively.

You will be responsible for implementing the IT roadmap to ensure systems and services are supported throughout their lifecycle, working closely with the University Cyber Security team to ensure systems and services adhere to Cyber Essentials. On occasion, you will be asked to act as the subject matter expert to projects requiring your expertise.

A successful candidate will have demonstrable hands-on experience working in a large complex organisation, supporting varied technologies including: PC/Instrument interfacing Specialised and/or bespoke software support/installation Varied, specialised teaching environments Windows Server PowerShell
