Apprentice Laboratory Assistant

Description:

Fera Science Ltd. is seeking an Apprentice Laboratory Assistant to join their Food Safety & Biosecurity team. This role offers on-the-job training in a leading science company, allowing the apprentice to gain practical laboratory skills and a recognized qualification: Level 4 (HNC) in Applied Sciences with a Level 3 apprenticeship. The position involves contributing to pathogen diagnosis in plant protection, supporting both UK and international projects, responding to urgent laboratory needs, and attending York College one day a week during term time.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support core laboratories in Plant Protection

• Contribute to pathogen diagnosis for plant protection in the UK and overseas

• Respond to emergency laboratory needs

• Attend York College and University Centre one day per week (term time only)

• Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team

• Support transformation initiatives within the plant protection program

Qualifications:

• A Level in Biology or Chemistry preferred but not essential, or Level 3 science-based qualification, or relevant experience

• Strong IT skills

• Ability to work within deadlines

• Excellent communication skills and ability to follow instructions

• Organised, proactive, and determined approach to lab work and coursework

• Punctual with a strong work ethic

• Attention to detail and patience to ensure accuracy
