Keystone Archaeology is a cross-hire archaeology company offering a supportive and flexible approach to freelance archaeological work. The company balances high-quality results for clients with fair and respectful treatment of its freelance team. Keystone welcomes applications from experienced freelance archaeologists as well as those considering moving from employment in archaeological units to self-employment.

Due to increased demand, Keystone is expanding its freelance field team. The available roles involve working on two projects in Oxfordshire and the Swindon area, with optional daily overtime depending on availability. Key responsibilities include:

• Excavation and fieldwork

• Documentation of archaeological features and findings

• Analysis and interpretation of archaeological data

• Collaboration with team members to ensure high-quality outcomes

Day rates depend on the project and experience level. Typical rates are £200–£220 per day for site assistants and £250–£260 per day for supervisors, with higher rates available for overtime.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 1 year of excavation and fieldwork experience

• SSSTS certification (required for Supervisor positions)

• Strong background in archaeology with solid analytical and research skills

• Ability to work on-site in Oxfordshire

• Excellent written and verbal communication

• Relevant degree (e.g., Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field) and appropriate certifications
