Assistant Accountant

Description:

An exciting opportunity for an Assistant Accountant has arisen within a fast-growing and well-established company in the construction sector based in Cardiff. This is a hands-on role supporting the finance function with a clear structured career progression path aimed at becoming a Finance Manager within 12 months through a fast-track program.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable:

• Maintain the purchase ledger including invoice processing, coordinating approval workflows.

• Process weekly BACS payments and direct debits.

• Set up and manage supplier accounts.

• Handle staff expense claims and administer company credit cards.

Accounts Receivable:

• Maintain the sales ledger including invoicing and credit control.

• Oversee the full invoicing process.

• Monitor overdue accounts and issue debtor statements.

• Track deposits and payments.

• Act as the first point of contact for customer and internal finance queries.

General Finance Support:

• Assist with banking tasks and perform bank reconciliations.

• Manage petty cash processing.

• Support payroll and pensions processing as required.

• Prepare CIS Returns.

Person Specification:

• At least 3 years of relevant finance or accounts experience.

• Part qualified or qualified AAT/ACCA/CIMA desirable but not essential; relevant experience without qualifications is acceptable.

• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

• Confident communicator able to engage with internal and external stakeholders.

• Team player willing to support colleagues.

• Solid experience with Xero accounting software.

• Strong IT skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
