The University of Warwick is seeking an Assistant Professor (Research) in Safe Large Language Models to join the Safe Autonomy Research Group within WMG. This is a research-intensive role with minimal teaching responsibilities, focused on developing pioneering solutions for the safety of Large Language Models (LLMs) in safety-critical domains such as autonomous land, air, and marine transport.
The successful candidate will work on high-impact international projects such as CERTAIN, AIGGREGATE, and EEA4CCAM, contributing directly to global safety standards, industrial practices, and policy development. Key research areas include LLM fine-tuning for safety-critical applications, AI alignment, agentic architectures, multimodal grounding, and RAG frameworks.

About You:
Applicants should hold a PhD in AI, Computer Science, or a related field, with demonstrated expertise in safe AI, LLMs, and multimodal/agentic systems. A proven track record of publishing high-impact research and experience with AI safety alignment, fine-tuning, and deployment in high-stakes environments is essential. Strong collaboration skills and the ability to translate technical research into real-world solutions are critical.
