Associate Lecturer

Description:

The Open University is recruiting several Associate Lecturers to teach in the School of Computing and Communications, focusing on Data Analysis and Data Management modules, primarily TM351 Data Management and Analysis. This part-time role (0.09 FTE) is designed for candidates who are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about data management and analysis as essential 21st-century skills.

The role is home-based with no fixed core hours, involving a workload that varies throughout the academic year. Major responsibilities include teaching and supporting students on one or more modules, marking and providing assessment feedback, student support (both one-on-one and forum-based), peer mentoring, and contributing to module quality improvement.

A strong theoretical or practical understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, data visualization, and legal/ethical issues around data collection and reuse is required. Teaching will primarily be online, though some face-to-face opportunities may arise in the future. The position begins in October 2025, contingent on student registrations, with a probation period of two years.
