Associate Urban Designer

 

Description:

Pegasus Group is seeking an accomplished Associate Urban Designer to join its innovative Design Team based in Cambridge. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse urban design and planning projects — ranging from comprehensive urban extensions and strategic regeneration schemes to residential, mixed-use, and renewable energy developments.

As an Associate Urban Designer, you will be responsible for delivering top-tier design services within Pegasus Group, maintaining the highest standards of creativity, technical precision, and planning excellence. You will also play a pivotal role in mentoring junior team members and leading collaborative efforts with clients and external consultants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and delivery of urban development projects, ensuring creativity and compliance with planning policies.

  • Prepare and review Design and Access Statements (DAS), Design Codes, Development Briefs, and Compliance Statements.

  • Produce detailed site layouts, masterplans, street scenes, and house types for both outline and detailed planning applications.

  • Balance technical and creative aspects of urban design to achieve functional, aesthetically pleasing, and sustainable spaces.

  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, coordinating inputs from architects, planners, and engineers.

  • Lead client and stakeholder meetings, preparing and delivering compelling presentations.

  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and training to junior designers to enhance technical and professional growth.

  • Contribute to public and stakeholder consultations across multiple projects, fostering strong community engagement.

  • Manage multiple concurrent projects efficiently while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Degree in Architecture, Urban Design, or a closely related field, with postgraduate qualification preferred.

  • Proven expertise and a strong portfolio in urban design and architectural planning.

  • Exceptional design and visualization skills using various media.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.

  • Excellent understanding of UK planning systems and design principles.

  • Ability to manage complex projects, ensuring alignment between client objectives and creative vision.

  • Experience in stakeholder consultation and multidisciplinary collaboration.
