Automation Engineer

Description:

Catalent Pharma Solutions, a global leader in contract development and manufacturing (CDMO), is seeking a highly motivated Automation Engineer to join their Swindon facility, home of the world-leading Zydis® ODT technology. This role will play a crucial part in driving facility upgrades and system improvements, supporting the delivery of high-quality pharmaceutical products that positively impact patient lives worldwide.

The Automation Engineer will be a key contributor to the site’s projects and reliability engineering team, focusing on designing, implementing, and optimising automated systems across a wide range of plant and facility processes. The role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, delivering both small modifications and large-scale capital enhancements to critical site infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement strategies for rolling upgrades of plant and equipment.

• Manage installation, commissioning, and integration of new systems (HVAC, steam systems, chillers, etc.), ensuring on-time delivery and full business benefit.

• Oversee automation systems including BMS, EMS, and PLC programming.

• Monitor project progress, update stakeholders, and resolve issues proactively.

• Conduct root cause analysis and drive continuous improvements for plant systems including refrigeration, steam boilers, vacuum, HVAC, and water treatment.

• Manage project budgets, ensuring cost efficiency and value delivery.

• Promote a culture of continuous risk identification, mitigation, and compliance.

Requirements:

• Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

• Strong background in process control and automation software including PLCs (AB Rockwell, Siemens), SCADA systems (Rockwell Historian), CAD tools, Trend BMS, Lighthouse EMS, and JDEdwards.

• Proven experience within GMP environments.

• Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.

• Methodical, proactive, and innovative approach to engineering challenges.
