Ba Graphic Communication Design

Description:

BA (Honours) Graphic Communication Design at Central Saint Martins is a large and diverse undergraduate course that facilitates students to pursue a range of specialist, generalist, and hybrid approaches that extend and challenge the traditions of graphic design. You can see examples of work produced by our most recent graduates on the UAL Graduate Showcase: https://graduateshowcase.arts.ac.uk/c/central-saint-martins-ba-hons-graphic-communication-design.

Stage Leaders on BA (Honours) Graphic Communication Design teach into, as well as providing leadership around teaching on, academic units. They play a key role in the course’s interrogative approach to graphic communication design subject matter, pedagogy and skills. Working as a team with other Stage Leaders and the Course Leader, Stage Leaders manage thresholds and student transitions and provide a consistent student journey. An important aspect of the Stage Leader’s role is to stimulate thoughts and practices that challenge the canon of Graphic Communication Design with the aim of promoting diversity and inclusivity.

Now is a crucial time for Central Saint Martins and the University of the Arts London. The pandemic and anti-racism movement in their own and intersecting ways set a new landscape for higher education in the creative arts, in which ways of teaching and operating will be reconsidered, and where the values of social justice and anti-racism must underpin everything we do. These conditions set both urgent challenges but also the potential to reflect on what we do. Central Saint Martins aims to engage with and lead the global debate about the arts, performance and design, and their role in societal transformation. We also aim to empower our graduates to be the leading practitioners in their field, as well as responsible citizens of the world. We hope you will consider joining our creative community.

The Graphic Communication Design programme at Central Saint Martins facilitates a large heterogeneous community of students and staff to thrive through graphic design and communication practice in diverse and meaningful ways. We ask and answer questions through and about graphic communication design. The staff are a forward-thinking and outward-facing team who value pedagogic innovation, critical practice and explorative approaches to the possibilities of the discipline.

We are looking for a motivated academic with a track record of facilitating and supporting students and colleagues, working individually and as part of communities and teams. You will take a dynamic and critical approach to Graphic Communication Design and Higher Education, and be actively engaged in practice or research relevant to the BA (Honours) Graphic Communication Design curriculum at CSM. You will have a postgraduate qualification (or the equivalent) with the potential to contribute to the advancement of the field.

UAL is committed to addressing the under-representation of staff from Black and Minority Ethnic communities, using our student profile as a reference point.
