Bathing Water Senior Officer

Description:

The Environment Agency is seeking a Bathing Water Senior Officer to help protect and enhance water quality and ensure safe bathing water standards. This role involves advising water companies, evaluating proposals, developing innovative approaches, and engaging with both internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver environmental outcomes. The officer will also take an incident role, supporting response and business continuity during environmental incidents.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work with Water Quality Officers to establish and embed Bathing Waters programs.

• Support Operational teams in delivering regulatory and environmental responsibilities.

• Assess water company proposals and develop methods to meet bathing water standards.

• Engage with internal teams (e.g., Local Area Integrated Environmental Planning, National Water Quality Guidance) and external stakeholders to achieve outcomes.

• Respond to incidents and support business continuity during environmental emergencies.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Knowledge of water quality planning, bathing water regulations, and the water industry, including price review processes.

• Strong communication and networking skills for collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.

• Ability to analyse technical information and present findings to varied audiences.

• Strong organisational skills to plan, track, deliver, and evaluate work to meet standards and deadlines.

Desirable:

• Degree or postgraduate qualification in an environmental discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Ecology, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Data Science).

• Experience in water quality modelling.

Contract & Location Details:

• Flexible hybrid working with travel for national meetings and occasional overnight stays.
