ParaPride is actively recruiting a Secretary to join its Board of Trustees. This is a crucial volunteer role that ensures effective governance and administrative processes are upheld while supporting the strategic development of the charity. ParaPride is committed to empowering and amplifying the voices of LGBTQ+ and disabled communities through inclusive events, advocacy, and education.
As a trustee and Board Secretary, you will help lead ParaPride’s efforts to maintain strong governance, legal compliance, policy development, and documentation of the board’s decisions. You will play a key role in facilitating communications between trustees, ensuring all governance procedures are transparent and up to date.
This opportunity is particularly ideal for someone with a background in administration, governance, policy, or legal compliance—especially within charitable or nonprofit settings.
Collaborate with the Chair and other trustees to prepare and distribute meeting agendas
Record, draft, and circulate accurate minutes and action items from board meetings
Maintain governance documents, board policies, and decision logs
Ensure timely filing of annual reports and governance materials with the Charity Commission
Support trustee onboarding, induction, and compliance awareness
Serve as custodian of the charity’s governing documents and policy updates
Work with the Policy subcommittee to advance the charity’s internal policies and procedures
Help guide ParaPride’s strategic governance and compliance practices
Promote and uphold ParaPride’s Equality, Diversity, and Safeguarding policies
Support delivery of strategic plans and timely execution of board-agreed tasks
Contribute thoughtfully to board discussions and decisions
Represent ParaPride’s values and uphold the highest standards of integrity
Prior experience in administrative, governance, or secretarial roles (preferred in the nonprofit sector)
Familiarity with charity governance (or willingness to learn)
Exceptional organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail
Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality
Passion for advocacy in LGBTQIA+ and disabled communities
Strong written and verbal communication
Ability to think strategically, work independently, and contribute to a collaborative team
Strong commitment to ParaPride’s mission and communities served
Ideally a member of or ally to the LGBTQIA+ and disabled communities
Understanding or willingness to learn the legal responsibilities of a trustee
Integrity, good judgment, and openness in working with others
Willingness to speak up, think creatively, and contribute to policy-making and strategy
Available to attend board meetings regularly and participate in digital communication
Willing to give adequate notice if choosing to step down
Standard trustee term: 3 years (renewable for 3 more)
Attendance at regular board meetings
Active participation in governance-related activities and responses within 2 weeks
Minimum 3-month notice period if stepping down
Expected to contribute to strategic deliverables between meetings
