Business Continuity Engineer

Careers Plus is seeking a highly skilled Business Continuity Engineer (GTS Engineer) to enhance operational resilience and business continuity across Microsoft environments and core IT infrastructure. This position is ideal for an experienced professional who can combine technical expertise with strategic planning to ensure systems and services remain robust, secure, and recoverable in the event of disruptions.

In this role, you will take ownership of business continuity and disaster recovery (BC/DR) planning for Microsoft 365 and Azure services, ensuring recovery objectives (RTO & RPO) are defined, tested, and met. You will manage backup strategies, including immutable copies, off-site retention, and routine restoration tests, while supporting servers, storage, networking, and identity infrastructure.

The role requires preparing and maintaining compliance records, producing clear documentation such as runbooks and process guides, leading disaster recovery exercises, and presenting risk-based recommendations to senior stakeholders. You will partner closely with security, service desk, and vendor teams to ensure continuity plans are both practical and effective.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and manage continuity and disaster recovery strategies for Microsoft 365 and Azure services.

• Oversee backup strategy and perform recovery testing, ensuring resilience through off-site and immutable backups.

• Support IT infrastructure delivery across servers, networking, storage, and identity services.

• Maintain compliance records, support ISO 27001 audits, and evidence required controls.

• Write, update, and approve process documentation and runbooks for continuity.

• Track cyber risks, plan mitigation, and report progress to stakeholders.

• Lead disaster recovery (DR) exercises and post-test improvements.

• Present continuity updates, options, and cost-benefit analyses to senior leadership.

Requirements:

• Microsoft 365 and Azure certifications (or equivalent proven experience).

• Strong track record in disaster recovery, backups, and restoration in enterprise/public sector environments.

• Knowledge of IT infrastructure fundamentals and identity services.

• Understanding of ISO 27001 and audit evidence gathering.

• Experience in writing professional process guides, change requests, and policy documents.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Calm, professional approach with proven ability to learn from testing and continuously improve.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have):

• Experience with ISO 22301 or operational resilience frameworks.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Graph, Intune, Sentinel, or Defender suite.

• Understanding of business impact analysis and risk registers.

• Experience with Veeam or other backup platforms and cloud resilience strategies.

Expected Success in First Year:

• Delivery of an approved continuity strategy with tested recovery for top-tier services.

• Measurable improvements in backup and restore success rates.

• Successful internal/external ISO 27001 audit outcomes.

• Completion of at least two full disaster recovery exercises with improvements implemented.

• Demonstrated increase in stakeholder confidence in resilience through measurable scorecards.
