Version 1 is seeking a Business Development Director with a focus on the UK Public Sector, particularly Central Government, to join its growing and dynamic team based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. With over 28 years of success in digital transformation and technology services, Version 1 partners with global tech leaders like AWS, Microsoft, and Oracle to deliver high-impact solutions across the public sector.

The successful candidate will join a high-performing sales team dedicated to securing strategic contracts and expanding business with both existing and new public sector clients. The role involves developing long-term relationships with key government stakeholders, managing sales pipelines, overseeing bid processes, and ensuring delivery alignment in collaboration with internal teams.

This role is ideal for a candidate with strong knowledge of public procurement, an ability to manage and influence stakeholders across multiple levels, and the drive to lead major sales opportunities. It combines both new business generation and account growth, with regular on-site client engagement expected.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with UK Central Government clients

  • Lead and close sales opportunities through both direct and partner-led channels

  • Conduct regular client engagements, including on-site visits and quarterly business reviews

  • Identify and convert new business opportunities, including net new logo acquisition

  • Lead bid management, proposal development, and full sales cycle processes

  • Create and execute detailed account plans with a 24-month strategy outlook

  • Drive commercial performance and ensure contract execution with delivery teams

  • Collaborate with technical, marketing, and pre-sales teams to align customer propositions

  • Monitor market trends, competition, and frameworks to shape strategic positioning

  • Negotiate contract terms and pricing effectively


Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in public sector business development with Central Government focus

  • In-depth knowledge of UK public procurement and government frameworks

  • Background in IT services/technology solutions (not product-based roles)

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing capabilities

  • Demonstrated success in both client retention and new business development

  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
