Innovation activities at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine have been growing exponentially following the success of iiCON, (£250M+ programme), and the establishment of a new LSTM Enterprise and Innovation Unit (EIU). While major success and impact has been achieved through this innovation activity, deployment to care within healthcare systems, such as the NHS, remains challenging.

Playing a critical role in delivery of the strategic and business objectives of the iiCON and the Enterprise & Innovation Unit (EIU), the Market Access Manager will be responsible for driving access and adoption of new interventions into healthcare systems. You will support the development and implementation of both LSTM-led translational research activity, as well as innovation from partners in the commercial sector and broader Health and Life Sciences (HLS) field.

The Market Access Manager/Business Development Manager will focus specifically on facilitating and accelerating NHS access, in direct partnership with the Innovation Agency – the North West Coast Health Innovation Network, whose mission is also aligned with accelerated adoption of innovation into the NHS. They will need to participate into the EIU activity and operate in this challenging busy and growing environment, supporting the EIU key business development objectives.

Key Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Represent, promote and maintain the LSTM research portfolio offering to business, external stakeholders and commercial partners who synergise specifically with LSTM’s research offering in Health & Life Sciences field.
  • Act as an interface between LSTM and the NHS, with specific focus on adoption and implementation of new IPC interventions, policy and clinical guidelines.
  • Through integration with the Innovation Agency, provide insight and market intelligence with regard to access to innovation and effective knowledge transfer as well as promotion of mutual activity including events, and innovator clinics and showcases.
  • Assist in assessing the appropriate route to market/healthcare access for LSTM and LSTM’s partners commercial projects.
  • Support development and delivery of an engagement strategy to encourage women and minorities to engage with STEM relevant to the LSTM research portfolio.

To be successful in this role, it is essential that you demonstrate:

  • Degree in relevant life sciences and/or medical/healthcare field or Business
  • Demonstrable continuous professional development
  • A demonstrable track record of meeting targets and/or deadlines
  • Experience of developing, implementing, and monitoring projects with external partners
  • Demonstrable experience of academia and/or, tech transfer, biotech or similar environment
  • Proven strong interpersonal skills for communicating with diverse stakeholders
  • Interest in thinking innovatively in the development of ideas relating to healthcare
