It's an exciting time at AXA Manchester, with a new leadership team and significant investment secured to transform our service delivery and grow our footprint with our broker partners in the North West. As part of this, we're looking for a talented individual to join our business development team on a permanent basis.

As Business Development Manager, you're someone who is passionate about growing profitable relationships with brokers. Within this role you will use your skills and experience to build and maintain a robust pipeline of new business opportunities, and be visible in the insurance market.

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 60% of your week away from home, either at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events. We're also happy to consider flexible working arrangements, such as part-time or condensed hours, which you can discuss with Talent Acquisition.

What you'll be doing:

  • Proactively develop strong relationships with a designated panel of brokers, taking full ownership for the generation of profitable business.
  • Build, manage and maintain strong relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, including all key customers and networks to deliver strategy and increase opportunities for the business.
  • Prepare, design, implement and review set development plans.
  • Proactively develop a robust pipeline of appropriate new business opportunities and ensure that long-term pipeline is realised by ensuring broker / client engagement.
  • Understand in its entirety and communicate internally within AXA, the nature of the brokers' business, the marketplace and the extent and potential of the relationship.
  • Plan, forecast and set the operational targets (including the budget and the financial model) to achieve the strategic development plan.
  • Review progress of initiatives against plan and take remedial action as appropriate.
  • Prospect potential new opportunities and markets. Identify new deals, assess feasibility and project manage the implementation of new deals (including leading contract negotiations.)
  • Effectively promote and deploy AXA's strategy, product range, propositions and key differentiators to leverage commercial opportunities.
  • Undertake profit reviews to identify areas for improvement and lead conversations with brokers to agree actions to optimise profitability. Support underwriters with rate actions as necessary.

About you

What we're looking for:

  • ACII qualification or equivalent is preferable.
  • Degree level education or equivalent is preferable.
  • Good understanding of underwriting & risk management principles.
  • Strong product knowledge.
  • Mid-market knowledge and generation experience is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Established networking and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to develop reciprocal relationships with intermediaries.
  • Awareness of profitability of business within the intermediary channel.
  • Significant technical Insurance or Financial Service/retail background in a consumer-oriented environment an advantage.
