Business System Developer

Description:

VolkerStevin, part of the VolkerWessels UK Group, is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support Quantity Surveyors and Senior Surveyors with commercial, contractual, procurement, and project financial duties across major civil engineering projects. The role requires UK National status due to Security Clearance requirements. This is an opportunity to develop within an industry-leading engineering organisation.

Key Responsibilities:
General:

• Support procurement processes to maximise profit and ensure timely subcontract orders.

• Maintain awareness of project contractual requirements.

• Represent the company professionally and uphold commercial interests.

• Support and mentor trainee surveyors when applicable.

Tender:

• Assist the Bid Team as required.

Pre-Construction:

• Review tender documents and understand project scope and risk.

• Assist in preparing the first profit & loss forecast.

Subcontract Management:

• Help prepare subcontract documentation.

• Measure subcontractor works accurately and maintain proper records.

• Validate subcontractor account records.

• Produce subcontract payment notices in line with legislation (LDEDC 2009).

• Support subcontractor appraisals, payments, liabilities, and accruals.

Procurement:

• Prepare detailed subcontract comparisons.

• Follow procurement schedules and company commercial policy.

Commercial Duties:

• Maintain accurate site activity records.

• Assist with monthly commercial reports and backing documentation.

• Ensure subcontract payments are accurate and timely.

• Identify risks and escalate as needed.

• Support cost control, waste reduction, and programme understanding.

Qualifications:
Essential:

• Currently undertaking an accredited programme (RICS, CIOB, or ICES), or

• A degree with strong numerical/technical focus (HND/HNC acceptable).

• Relevant fields may include construction, civil engineering, structural engineering, urban/land studies, etc.

Desirable:

• Degree in Quantity Surveying with relevant experience.
