Description:

Markel International is seeking a skilled and driven Catastrophe Analyst to join its Non-Natural Catastrophe team, with a strong focus on Cyber risk. This role is pivotal in shaping strategic underwriting decisions through advanced analytics and catastrophe modelling, contributing to the delivery of consistent underwriting profit and outstanding financial performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize third-party catastrophe models and in-house tools for detailed pre-underwriting analytics.

  • Lead the creation of quarterly divisional reports, ensuring high-quality, data-driven insights.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with underwriters to support informed risk decisions.

  • Deliver ad-hoc portfolio analysis and reports for senior executives, providing meaningful business intelligence.

  • Present findings and analytical outputs confidently to senior stakeholders and underwriting teams.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across international offices and manage communication with outsourcing partners.

  • Lead and participate in ad-hoc projects, partnering closely with the Catastrophe Management team and Associate Director.

  • Oversee both internal and external reporting, including submissions to Lloyd’s and the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA).

Requirements:

  • Strong background in catastrophe modelling or aggregation management, specifically within the London market.

  • Excellent technical skills, particularly in SQL; additional coding experience is highly desirable.

  • Deep understanding of catastrophe management best practices and portfolio-level aggregation techniques.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines with a results-oriented mindset.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the capability to build lasting relationships across departments and regions.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a numerical field (2:1 or above) or equivalent qualification.
