Description:
Babcock International is seeking a Chief Architect to provide technical leadership and strategic oversight for the development and maintenance of satellite communications systems for UK Defence operations. This role plays a critical part in shaping the long-term architecture of ground segment infrastructure, ensuring secure, resilient, and high-capacity satellite communications in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and international partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and maintain the end-to-end architectural framework for the ground segment, ensuring alignment with the UK Ministry of Defence's satellite communications strategy.
- Lead integration efforts between ground segment components, satellite constellations, and military networks to enhance performance and interoperability.
- Develop and implement a technology roadmap, incorporating emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, cyber resilience, and cloud technologies.
- Ensure adherence to UK defence security regulations, cybersecurity frameworks, and operational security standards.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders from the Ministry of Defence, military branches, and industry partners.
- Provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams, including systems engineers, network architects, and cybersecurity experts.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Extensive experience in satellite communications or related telecommunications architecture.
- Proven track record of leading large-scale technical programs in a defence or high-security environment.
- Strong knowledge of RF systems, secure communications, network management, and satellite ground infrastructure.
- Deep understanding of defence security requirements, encryption technologies, and secure data handling.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging senior military and government officials.
- Ability to develop innovative and scalable solutions for complex military communication challenges.
Qualifications:
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional accreditation.
- Experience working on Ministry of Defence or international military satellite communications projects.
- Strong knowledge of satellite communications architectures and virtualized network functions.
Security Clearance Requirements:
- Must be a sole UK national and eligible for Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance.
- Candidates can start with Security Check (SC) clearance while obtaining DV clearance.
