Civil/structural Engineering Intern

 

Description:

POWER Engineers is offering an exciting internship opportunity for a Civil/Structural Engineering student to work within the Power Delivery Overhead Line Department. This role will provide real-world training and skill development under the guidance of experienced engineers. The intern will be involved in various aspects of transmission line design, including overhead transmission lines, substation structures, wire systems, foundations, and related facilities. Additionally, the intern will assist with the development of material lists, construction drawings, and perform basic engineering calculations related to distribution design.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with transmission line design, focusing on overhead transmission lines, substation structures, wire systems, and foundations.
  • Contribute to the development of material lists and construction drawings.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations for distribution design.
  • Participate in Professional Development sessions (resume writing, interview tips, building LinkedIn profiles).
  • Join the Early Talent Speaker Series, where company leaders provide career advice and insights into their roles.
  • Engage in Fun Friday activities to network and interact with other interns.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer software and the ability to quickly learn new software.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Genuine interest in consulting engineering and the electric utility industry.
  • Authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without work sponsorship.

Desired Education/Experience:

  • Coursework in structural analysis, concrete, steel, soils, foundations, and surveying.
  • Previous internship experience or related engineering experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with design, drafting, or engineering software such as MATHCAD, SOLIDWORKS, AUTOCAD, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Preference for students who have passed or are scheduled to take the FE/EIT exam.
