Description:

The SAP Development Team Leader manages and leads the SAP development and operations team within the University’s Technology function. The role supports services including Finance, HR, Payroll, Purchasing, Employee/Manager Self-Service, and recruitment systems. It includes responsibility for technical leadership, team management, SAP integrations, system upgrades, documentation, and strategic operations. The position plays a key part in delivering the University’s product- and service-led IT strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage, and mentor the SAP development team

  • Ensure consistent technical standards and high-quality output

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Delivery Leads, and technical teams

  • Translate business needs into value-driven workloads

  • Plan and support technical professional development for team members

  • Maintain thorough documentation and ensure systems are up to date

  • Develop and maintain SAP development and operations strategies

  • Act as technical expert and point of contact on SAP topics

  • Participate in agile project teams

  • Stay current with new technologies and enhance skills

  • Perform additional duties aligned with the grade and role

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Honours degree in a related subject OR 5+ years experience

  • Demonstrable leadership and team management experience

  • Significant experience with production ERP/SAP systems

  • Experience driving system/process improvements

  • Ability to plan and prioritize maintainability (documentation, testing, automation)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to learn and set standards for new technologies

  • Ability to organise resources and manage workload across the team

  • Role includes management of SAP Developers (4 direct reports)

  • Reports to Head of Enterprise Systems
