Description:
Osborne Clarke, a leading international legal practice, is seeking an ambitious Client & Matter Inception (CMI) Manager to join its Risk & Compliance (R&C) Team. This is a permanent role based in Bristol or London, with flexibility for remote work part of the week.
As a CMI Manager, you will work closely with the Head of CMI, overseeing policies, processes, and systems related to conflicts, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), PEPs, Sanctions, and compliance matters. Your expertise will ensure the firm meets legal and regulatory obligations while supporting business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
People Management:
- Lead, support, and manage the OC CMI Team, including two Deputy Managers and multiple Team Leads.
- Provide guidance and direction to ensure smooth operations and compliance.
Policies & Processes:
- Assist the Head of CMI in designing, implementing, and optimizing CMI policies and procedures.
- Stay updated with legal, regulatory, and best practice developments, ensuring alignment across the firm.
- Address and resolve complex compliance issues escalated by the CMI team.
Strategic Alignment:
- Develop relationships with internal teams to promote consistency in compliance approaches.
- Contribute expertise to firmwide and R&C-specific projects.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Assist with drafting and maintaining CMI guidance notes for internal use.
- Support training and development initiatives for CMI and the wider business.
- Participate in AML risk assessments and internal audits.
- Contribute to recruitment and performance management of the CMI Team.
What We're Looking For:
- Proven experience in a management-level CMI or compliance role within a law firm.
- Strong knowledge of conflicts of interest, AML legislation, and regulatory codes.
- Ability to handle complex compliance challenges and business requests.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to guide teams and provide clear instructions.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, including relationship-building.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and solution-focused approach.
- Proficiency in MS Office and compliance databases.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize workloads, and work under pressure.
