Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust is expanding its Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) Psychology team, offering an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist passionate about enhancing the psychological well-being of older adults.

This role is designed for an experienced Band 8a Clinical Psychologist or a Band 7 psychologist who is motivated to grow within a structured development/preceptorship plan towards an 8a role. You will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team working across diverse community mental health settings.

You will provide specialist clinical psychological input through a varied mix of therapeutic and neuropsychological interventions. This includes direct patient work, neuropsychological assessments, and consultation with multidisciplinary teams, supporting individuals with complex mental health and neurodevelopmental needs, particularly within older populations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialist clinical psychology services within Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP), including both therapeutic interventions and neuropsychological assessments, particularly within the Memory Service pathway.

  • Work autonomously within the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) and other service areas, offering evidence-based psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention.

  • Provide expert advice and consultation to non-psychologist colleagues, contributing to the psychological care planning and delivery across the service.

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop, implement, and review effective care pathways aligned with the mental health transformation plan.

  • Engage in strategic service development and clinical governance activities to enhance psychological service delivery.

  • Participate actively in departmental clinical discussions, peer supervision, and continuing professional development (CPD).

  • Support the training and supervision of trainees and assistant psychologists within the team.

  • Contribute to research and service development projects in partnership with the Trust’s Research and Development Team.

  • Maintain professional standards in line with the British Psychological Society (BPS), Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and Trust policies.


Person Specification:

  • Registered Clinical Psychologist with HCPC and membership of the BPS.

  • Experience working with older adults with mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions.

  • Skilled in delivering a broad range of therapeutic interventions including CBT, systemic therapy, psycho-dynamic approaches, and neuropsychological assessment.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with patients, carers, and colleagues.

  • Commitment to personal and professional development, including pursuing relevant CPD opportunities.

  • Passion for improving psychological wellbeing and supporting older adults and their families.

  • Experience in clinical supervision or teaching would be an advantage.
