Description:

There has never been a more exciting time to get involved in creating new woodlands and truly make a difference. Forestry England have ambitious targets to grow more forests over the next few years. We are looking for someone to help tell this story and garner support for over 1,000ha of new woodland that we aim to create by 2025.

Forestry England care for more forests and land than any other organisation in England which gives us unique opportunities to address biodiversity loss at scale, and have an impact on people’s health and wellbeing throughout the country. We are on the frontline of the climate crisis, seeing the impact on our forests on a daily basis. We are not only planting new forests but using the latest research to plan and plant the right forests which will survive in a hotter climate.

This role will support Forestry England to create new woodlands as part of Defra’s Nature for Climate Programme. You will be part of a small team in Forestry England who work to identify, appraise, design and deliver new woodland sites. The new woodlands will be accessible to the public, delivering for people, wildlife and the climate.

It will be varied and fast paced to meet our challenging woodland creation targets. You will work in close collaboration with people from across the organisation and beyond to support the smooth delivery of new woodland with good communications.

There are two key areas of communication and engagement support required to make this delivery happen:

1. Site-focused engagement and communications with neighbours and communities as part of the individual site design and delivery. This will be delivered in collaboration with local site teams.

2. Promoting the scheme to reach private and public landowners to help build a pipeline of suitable applications.

We are looking for a passionate and proactive person to co-ordinate engagement and communication aspects of our woodland creation programme.
