North Bristol NHS Trust is inviting applications for an exciting fixed-term Consultant Anaesthetist position. The role will offer a varied clinical programme, focusing on several specialties such as vascular, trauma, colorectal, and paediatric anaesthesia, depending on the candidate’s expertise. As a Consultant Anaesthetist, you will be responsible for providing anaesthesia services to a wide range of specialties, including regional anaesthesia, trauma, neurosurgery, and obstetrics. You will be expected to work closely with multidisciplinary teams, teaching medical students, and contributing to clinical research. Key Responsibilities:
Providing anaesthesia for a broad range of specialties, including vascular, trauma, colorectal, and paediatric anaesthesia.
Involvement in regional anaesthesia services and supporting trauma and plastic surgery.
Collaborating with the surgical and medical teams, particularly in complex and emergency surgeries.
Teaching medical undergraduates and postgraduates, including involvement in training courses and mentorship.
Conducting audits and research projects to improve clinical practices.
Ensuring high standards of care in the delivery of anaesthesia, including pre-operative assessments and post-operative pain management.
Participating in on-call duties and ensuring availability for emergency interventions.
Engaging in departmental meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
Experience Required:
A minimum of 6 years of postgraduate experience, including 3 years as a registrar in an approved training post or equivalent.
Must have a CCT in Anaesthesia and be entered on the GMC Specialist Register by the time of appointment, or within 6 months of obtaining it.
Experience in a wide range of anaesthesia sub-specialties including regional anaesthesia, obstetrics, and neurosurgery is highly desirable.
Familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential.
Proven teaching ability and willingness to contribute to training medical undergraduates and postgraduates.
Previous experience in leading and managing clinical teams.
Desirable Criteria:
Higher academic qualifications (e.g., MD or MS).
Experience in non-UK hospital systems and practices.
Evidence of involvement in clinical management or change management.
Experience in research and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Completion of a general management course or programme.
Knowledge:
Familiarity with contemporary NHS management issues and the political context in which the NHS operates.
Knowledge of audit processes and continuous professional development (CPD).
Understanding of the clinical, educational, and administrative responsibilities of a Consultant Anaesthetist.
Skills:
Proven teaching ability and effective communication skills.
Ability to manage and lead a team, ensuring collaborative working relationships across departments.
Ability to undertake audits and contribute to the development of clinical practices.
