Description:

This is a bold initiative to improve the health of people in Scotland by developing and enhancing national expertise in the areas of economy and health, mortality trends and socioeconomic inequalities in health. You will be concerned with prevention, maximising population benefits and reducing health inequalities, while meeting the needs of individuals and groups and will provide clinical leadership to the Scottish Public Health Observatory.
 

You will be joining teams embedded within the NHS, but working closely with a wide range of relevant strategic partners and stakeholders including NHS Boards, Health & Social Care Partnerships, Academic Institutions, Out of Hours Services, NHS 24 and Scottish Ambulance Service. You will focus on transforming Scotland’s public health system, through effective working relationships with stakeholders such as NHS Scotland, Scottish Government and partner organisations.

PHS is a new organisation between the Scottish Government and Local Government, working in partnership, to provide leadership to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland. PHS launched 1st April 2020 with the formal status of a National Special Health Board employing around 1100 people and with an annual budget of around £60 million, PHS will provide authoritative information and services to support people and communities across Scotland. It will lead the national response to unforeseen health emergencies and will contribute to national and local government policy through its provision of robust data and intelligence.

The University of Glasgow has a large number of academics working in this area, including in Public Health, Primary Care, the Social and Public Health Sciences Unit and Sociology. You will be supported to apply for an honorary senior clinical lecturer position at the University of Glasgow and will be given time in your job plan to pursue research and teaching activities of mutual benefit to the University and PHS.

The post will report directly to the PHS Head of Clinical and Public Health Intelligence & Research.

The Candidate:

The post holder must be registered on the Specialist Register of the General Medical/Dental Council in Public Health or on the UK Public Health (Specialist) Register.
Candidates must have current NMC/GMC/HCPC/UKPHR registration at the time of applying.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.

Due to our national response to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic there may be an expectation for weekend and/or out of hours working.
