Description:

Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL) is recruiting a Consultant Psychiatrist in Learning Disability to join the Hillingdon Learning Disabilities Community Team based in Uxbridge. This is a full-time permanent role (10 PAs) focused on providing high-quality mental health services to adults with learning disabilities, both in the community and across inpatient settings.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary environment, engaging in both direct clinical care and service development. You will work alongside a Core Trainee, Higher Specialist Trainee, and fellow Consultants. The post also supports an optional educational component through a teaching PA linked to Brunel University.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead psychiatric care for adults with learning disabilities in the community and acute settings (Frays and Crane Wards at The Riverside Centre).

  • Serve as the Responsible Clinician for inpatient LD patients and those under Community Treatment Orders.

  • Conduct clinical assessments, formulate care plans, attend community team meetings, and contribute to tribunal report writing.

  • Collaborate with mental health, forensic, CAMHS, and tertiary care services.

  • Actively participate in quality improvement, service development, and teaching.

  • Support transition services and contribute to shaping services under new NHS reforms.

Requirements:

  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice.

  • GMC Specialist Register inclusion (or within 3 months).

  • Approved Clinician status and Section 12(2) MHA approval (or within 3 months).

  • High-level clinical skills in psychiatry and management of adults with learning disabilities.

  • Excellent communication and multidisciplinary team collaboration skills.

  • Commitment to disability-centered values and patient-focused care.

Desirable:

  • MRCPsych or equivalent qualification.

  • Recognized trainer status or higher academic qualifications (e.g., MD, PhD).

  • Experience in medico-legal work and service development.
