Controls Engineer

 

Description:

Alexander Steele Recruitment is partnering with a leading FMCG manufacturing company in Newcastle to recruit a Controls Engineer for a permanent full-time position. The role is an integral part of the engineering team, responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of advanced control systems to ensure the seamless operation of the facility’s machinery and automated processes.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and resolve faults in all electrical systems up to PLC level.

  • Work extensively with Siemens S7 and Allen Bradley PLCs.

  • Interpret and work from detailed electrical diagrams.

  • Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset to enhance plant reliability and performance.

  • Program and troubleshoot robotic systems, particularly Kuka and Fanuc.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for process and productivity improvements.

  • Maintain a high standard of safety and product quality in all engineering tasks.


Candidate Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.

  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with extensive experience in a similar role.

  • Hands-on experience with PLC systems (especially Siemens S7) and automation technology.

  • Skilled in programming and troubleshooting industrial robotic systems (Kuka, Fanuc).

  • Familiarity with the demands and operational environment of FMCG or food manufacturing.

  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and reliability.


Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive salary: £55,000 – £60,000 annually

  • 6% company pension contribution

  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays

  • Overtime paid at 1.25x standard rate

  • Shift pattern: 4 on, 4 off (day shifts only)
