Data And Solutions Engineer

Description:

Perch Group, the investment arm of a leading financial services company with over £1 billion in assets under management, is seeking a Data and Solutions Engineer to join their Engineering team in Manchester. This role is central to providing technical and analytical solutions to support the Investment & Decision Science teams, particularly during their transition from hosted SQL Server to a modern cloud-based environment on Azure.

The ideal candidate will combine strong traditional data engineering skills with proficiency in modern tools including Azure Data Factory, Power BI, Databricks, and Python. The role requires hands-on experience in database design, ETL development, data integration, and a strong focus on data quality and governance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Data Best Practices: Ensure adherence to best practices in data creation, management, and database performance.

• Data Solution Design: Translate high-level data solutions into detailed low-level designs and produce analytical outputs, operational insights, and visualizations for the investment team.

• ETL Development: Build and manage secure, governed ETL processes using on-premise and cloud-based data sources.

• Data Quality & Monitoring: Implement data observability and quality checks to proactively identify discrepancies.

• Performance Optimization: Enhance data platforms, ETL processes, and database solutions for performance and reusability.

• Financial Calculations: Develop robust formulae for IRRs, NPV, ROI, and other valuation metrics used by the investment team.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience in designing and deploying ETL packages and data systems.

• Strong proficiency in Python, T-SQL, and Microsoft SQL Stack technologies.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure tools: Azure Data Factory, Power BI, Data Pipelines, and Data Lake.

• Knowledge of Azure Data Lake and Delta Lake design patterns, including file hierarchy and permissions management (desirable).

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps with managed identity (desirable).

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills.

• Understanding of data quality and governance practices.
