Day Support Worker

Description:

Russets is a purpose-built service in Hilsea that provides respite care for adults who have learning disabilities and live within the area of Portsmouth. In addition to this Russets also provide adults with a learning disability with residential accommodation. Russets is the only unit of its kind in Portsmouth.

The Role:

Using a person centred approach, you will support people to fulfil their emotional, cultural, physical and social needs.
This will include personal care, assisting people at mealtimes and supporting individuals with all aspects of their daily living. You will also enable people to develop their social networks and participate in social activities. You will be a key worker to individuals, taking responsibility for keeping care plans up to date and for ensuring that individual needs are met. You will have the opportunity to support a diverse group of people with a wide range of care needs.
This role will include moving and handling duties and include supporting individuals who may challenge the service.

What you'll need to succeed

You need to have:

• Good communication skills - the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
• An understanding of the needs of people with learning disabilities.
• Experience in a caring role or working with learning disabilities.
• An understanding of the importance of an individual’s dignity, privacy and choice, and experience applying this in practice.
• The ability to be flexible and adaptable and to be able to work in a team and on your own initiative.
• An understanding of the cultural and linguistic needs of people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
