Description:
Somerset Council is seeking a Development Infrastructure Technician to join its Development Engineering Team in Taunton. This role plays a vital part in delivering critical highway infrastructure projects across Somerset, including roundabouts, signalised junctions, and distributor roads. Working under the guidance of the Principal Development Infrastructure Officer, the successful candidate will help oversee infrastructure linked to large-scale planning and development activities across the county.
Somerset has the tenth largest road network in the UK, encompassing 6,600 km of roads and over 2,000 bridges. With £50 million+ in highway projects underway and more planned, this role contributes to the administration of third-party and developer-led infrastructure agreements. This includes maintaining essential records, databases, and legal documentation, while acting as a point of contact for stakeholders such as developers, solicitors, contractors, and the public.
Key Responsibilities:
Administering the implementation of legal agreements linked to highway infrastructure delivery.
Maintaining critical databases and document management systems aligned with governance policies.
Tracking and recording contributions, commuted sums, and fees in line with legal terms.
Communicating professionally with developers, contractors, and legal representatives.
Supporting project monitoring and site visits to ensure compliance and quality standards.
Participating in collaborative sessions and mandatory training at County Hall.
Helping facilitate safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of new highway infrastructure.
Person Specification:
Experience in construction, highways, or engineering-related settings.
Strong self-management, communication, and analytical skills.
Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team.
Ability to handle administrative systems, document control, and financial tracking.
Enthusiastic, confident, and committed to high-quality service delivery.
