CityStruct is a growing infrastructure consultancy providing drainage, highways, and transport design services across the development lifecycle. We work with developers, architects, and local authorities to deliver technically robust and commercially viable solutions.
As part of our next stage of growth, we’re looking for a Drainage Engineer who wants to take ownership, grow with the business, and work on a range of interesting, small-to-medium scale schemes across residential, commercial and public realm projects.
Key Responsibilities
Drainage Design
- Preparing surface and foul water drainage designs for planning and construction stages
- Modelling drainage networks using MicroDrainage / Causeway Flow / InfoDrainage
- Developing SuDS concepts and detailed designs, including green roofs, rain gardens, soakaways, and permeable paving
- Producing drainage strategy reports, technical notes, and supporting calculations
- Reviewing and interpreting topographical surveys, utility plans, and ground investigation reports
- Supporting the director and senior staff in commercial-related activities
Flood Risk & Planning
- Producing Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) for small- to medium-sized sites
- Liaising with Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFAs), water companies, and the Environment Agency
- Supporting planning submissions by responding to drainage- or flood-related planning conditions
General Support
- Collaborating with highways and transport team members on integrated design solutions
- Providing input into fee proposals and scoping exercises
- Helping to develop internal CAD/QA templates and improve team delivery
- Supporting the director and senior members in both commercial and design activities
About You
We’re looking for someone technically competent but also collaborative and keen to make an impact in a small, fast-moving consultancy.
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- 2–5 years’ experience in drainage design (development or highways sector)
- Proficiency using MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage or equivalent and AutoCAD
- Understanding of SuDS principles and LLFA guidance
- Strong report writing skills (e.g. drainage strategies, FRAs)
- Working knowledge of the planning process and design standards (e.g. CIRIA SuDS Manual, Building Regulations, Sewer for Adoption)
Desirable
- Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Knowledge of sustainable materials, SuDS maintenance, and BNG integration
- Familiarity with applications to water companies such as United Utilities, Thames Water, Severn Trent
- Commercial awareness or experience supporting fee proposals and project scoping
