Description:
Laing O’Rourke is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Due Diligence and Compliance Specialist to join its Compliance team in Dartford. This critical role is designed to safeguard the business against reputational, operational, legal, and financial risks by conducting comprehensive due diligence and producing well-informed risk assessments.
The role is instrumental in supporting Laing O’Rourke’s legal, regulatory, and policy compliance commitments, particularly in the areas of anti-bribery and corruption, anti-money laundering, fraud, competition law, sanctions, and modern slavery.
The Specialist will conduct wide-ranging research into companies, organizations, and key individuals with whom Laing O’Rourke conducts business, delivering briefing materials and risk assessments that enable the organization to make sound decisions regarding clients, joint ventures, supply chain partners, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain due diligence frameworks, tools, and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and consistency.
Conduct due diligence reviews on all prospective clients, consortiums, and joint venture partners.
Monitor ongoing screening databases, escalating compliance issues when necessary.
Produce clear, concise, and accurate due diligence reports and risk assessments.
Maintain structured and easily retrievable digital records of all reports, summaries, and documents.
Support internal investigations by leveraging strong research and analysis skills.
Deliver training and support to colleagues across functions, enabling effective due diligence processes.
Stay updated on evolving legislation, risk trends, and best practices relevant to compliance in the construction and infrastructure industries.
Be prepared to present and discuss due diligence findings for audits, investigations, litigation, or legal inquiries.
Technical Capabilities & Skills Required:
Strong expertise in compliance, risk, or due diligence roles, ideally within construction or infrastructure.
Deep understanding of reputational, financial crime, and regulatory risks.
Proficiency with online databases and subscription portals (Companies House, Thomson Reuters, Dow Jones, etc.).
Ability to interpret corporate and financial data, public records, and open sources to identify risks and provide evidence-based conclusions.
Excellent report writing, analytical, and communication skills.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, Risk Management, or related discipline.
Professional certifications (ICA, ACAMS, CFE) desirable but not mandatory.
