Description:

Join SSE, a leading energy company with ambitious goals to power the UK’s transition to net zero. As an Electrical CMI Designer, you will be a vital part of the project refinement team responsible for managing a portfolio of network alterations and upgrades across SSEN’s South Distribution Network.

You will conduct site visits across various locations, engaging with stakeholders such as customers, land agents, and local authorities to ensure all designs comply with safety, cost, and policy requirements. Your work will enable SSE to safely and effectively deliver infrastructure improvements necessary for a sustainable low carbon future.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement network alterations, refurbishments, and wayleave terminations from LV cables, 11kV distribution substations, up to 33kV poles

  • Conduct site visits to assess and verify project feasibility, liaising with multiple stakeholders

  • Identify and mitigate issues related to archaeology, ecology, environment, and land designations before construction begins

  • Produce detailed design deliverables including drawings, documents, access packages, and PCI reports in accordance with SSEN Design Standards

  • Act as Principal Designer to ensure all schemes are compliant with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM), managing and reducing health and safety risks

  • Coordinate with construction teams to ensure smooth handover and project delivery


Candidate Requirements:

  • Relevant experience or knowledge in design, consents, and construction of cable routes, overhead lines, and network refurbishments on LV to 33kV systems

  • HNC qualification or equivalent experience preferred but not essential

  • Familiarity with CDM regulations and the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA) Code of Practice

  • IOSH or comparable health and safety qualification advantageous

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work accurately and independently under pressure

  • Must hold a valid current driving license due to the requirement for regular travel
