Electrical Design Engineer

Description:

UK Power Networks is hiring a Permanent Electrical Design Engineer to join their Capital Programme team based in London (near Canning Town), with flexible working options after the probationary period. The role offers the chance to be part of a high-performing multi-disciplinary team focused on delivering electrical design solutions across asset and connections portfolios, with an emphasis on compliance, safety, and technical excellence.

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll take ownership of developing electrical substation designs aligned with UK Power Networks and CDM regulations. You’ll contribute to high-voltage designs (132KV, 33KV, 11KV) and produce concept and detailed designs that are constructible, cost-effective, and aligned with relevant standards.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Producing compliant electrical designs with minimal supervision

• Ensuring alignment with all safety codes, CDM regulations, and internal standards

• Creating technical and commercial procurement documentation

• Participating in peer reviews, audits, and continuous design improvement

• Supporting site visits and liaising with operational and external stakeholders

• Helping enhance team capability by sharing technical knowledge

• Identifying cost-saving and innovative construction solutions

• Maintaining high health, safety, and environmental awareness

Required Skills & Attributes:

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, MS Excel, and MS Project

• In-depth knowledge of cables, overhead lines, and modern distribution equipment

• Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental best practices

• Ability to work collaboratively in multi-functional teams

• Strong understanding of financial systems and project management principles
