Description:
As an Electrician at IDM Energy, you’ll deliver electrical maintenance, testing, installation and project works across a range of client sites.
You’ll work independently on suitable jobs and alongside other electricians, apprentices, plumbers, heating engineers, joiners and general maintenance technicians where the work requires a wider team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Completing reactive electrical maintenance and repairs
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance
- Installing, altering and upgrading electrical systems
- Diagnosing electrical faults and delivering safe, practical repairs
- Completing electrical testing and inspection where appropriately qualified
- Completing minor works certificates, electrical installation certificates and other required documentation
- Recording accurate job notes, test results, materials, photographs and completion details
- Reviewing job information and confirming the required scope before starting work
- Identifying additional defects or remedial work and reporting them promptly
- Ensuring work complies with BS 7671, the Electricity at Work Regulations and applicable industry standards
- Following company risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work
- Carrying out safe isolation and proving systems dead before work begins
- Working across commercial, industrial and residential environments
- Supporting electrical projects, upgrades, refurbishments and installation works
- Assisting with site surveys, measurements, material schedules and quotations
- Communicating clearly with clients, site contacts, colleagues and the office-based team
- Supporting apprentices and less-experienced members of the team
- Taking ownership of assigned jobs and following them through to proper completion
- Looking after company tools, test equipment, materials and vehicles
- Representing IDM Energy professionally while on site and on the road
- Travelling throughout the Highlands, Islands and elsewhere in Scotland when required
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for a qualified electrician with strong technical ability and the right attitude—someone who works safely, thinks ahead and takes pride in doing the job properly.
You’ll need:
- A recognised electrical apprenticeship, SVQ Level 3 or equivalent electrical qualification
- Current 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification
- Practical experience across electrical installation, maintenance and fault-finding
- Experience working in commercial, industrial or residential environments
- A good understanding of BS 7671 and electrical safety requirements
- Confidence working independently and making sensible decisions on site
- The ability to complete accurate electrical certification and job records
- Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Strong health and safety awareness
- Good communication and customer-service skills
- A professional, reliable and proactive approach
- Confidence using a work phone and digital job-management systems
- A valid UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel throughout Scotland when required
It would be beneficial if you also have:
- SJIB Approved Electrician grading
- A recognised inspection and testing qualification, such as City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent
- Experience completing EICRs and remedial works
- Experience working within an NICEIC Approved Contractor
- Experience with renewable technologies, Solar PV, battery storage or EV charging
- Experience working on facilities-management or multi-site commercial contracts
- Previous experience supporting apprentices or leading other electricians
