This is an exciting opportunity, for an experienced mental health professional, in a new role working with the East of England Ambulance Service. Following a recent successful pilot project, funding has been agreed for 2 WTE Band 7 mental health professionals to work directly with the ambulance service in a joint response vehicle.

The role will involve attending patients in mental health crisis who have contacted 999 and requested an ambulance. You will complete mental health crisis assessments at the patients home with an ambulance crew in attendance to provide support and intervention in a timely manner, aiming to reduce the need to convey to A&E and a positive patient experience.

The Mental Health Advanced Practitioner works across various clinical settings utilising a range of tools and models of practice. A highly proficient and autonomous practitioner.

The Mental Health Advanced Practitioner will be a specialist for the provision of care and treatment to patients presenting with Mental Health urgent and unscheduled care problems. They will manage patients in, or closer to home, who present in acute mental health crisis. They will work in partnership with the ambulance service and the Emergency Vehicle Paramedic. They will be expected to have excellent mental health and physical health knowledge, understanding the complexities of co-morbid presentations.

Clinicians at this level will exhibit an advanced breadth and depth of knowledge combined with critical thinking and expertise in patient assessment, point of care patient care planning and clinical interventions. This knowledge and skill will be applied to ensure optimum patient outcomes, utilising a least restrictive and alternative to hospital approach. In addition, the Mental Health Advanced Practitioner will be expected to develop knowledge and skills in identified areas of specialist practice and contribute to pan-service education, training, and research and audit activity
