Description:

Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join its team in West Kilbride, Scotland. NRS plays a crucial role in safely managing and decommissioning the UK’s civil nuclear legacy, including first-generation nuclear power stations and research sites across the country.

This position offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the Decommissioning Programme at the Hunterston A Site, supporting hazard reduction, plant decommissioning, and safe site operations. The Assistant Project Manager will work closely with Project Managers and Engineers to ensure successful project planning, execution, and performance monitoring.

You will be a key liaison between multidisciplinary teams, facilitating clear communication, maintaining project schedules, and supporting the safe and effective delivery of decommissioning and waste management activities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and coordination of project plans, schedules, and progress tracking against milestones.

  • Work within company Safety Rules and perform duties as a Competent Person when required.

  • Monitor project performance and initiate corrective measures as needed.

  • Apply project management procedures to ensure consistency in administrative, design, and operational tasks.

  • Prepare project documentation, communication records, and progress reports.

  • Assist in evaluating issues related to project scope, schedule, or cost, recommending appropriate adjustments.

  • Participate in identifying and applying “Lessons Learned” to enhance future project delivery.

  • Oversee and perform decommissioning activities, including:

    • Decontamination of concrete structures and tanks.

    • De-planting and dismantling redundant equipment.

    • Waste processing, packaging, and disposal preparation.

    • Operation of effluent treatment plants.

    • Crane driving, rigging, slinging, and forklift operations (where trained and competent).

  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) policies and actively promote continuous improvement.


Qualifications:

  • Essential: HNC/HND or equivalent qualification (NQF Level 4 minimum) in a relevant engineering or technical discipline.

  • Desirable:

    • APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent certification.

    • CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS).


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience within a highly regulated industry, ideally nuclear, engineering, or construction management.

  • Proven ability to work in complex, matrix-managed organizations.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Strong technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Demonstrated accountability, adaptability, and proactive work ethic.

  • Customer-focused approach with a commitment to safety, performance, and quality.


Working Hours:
Monday – Thursday, 07:30 to 17:15, offering a four-day working week for enhanced work-life balance.
