Description:

Network Rail Design Delivery (NRDD) provide a managed service for design delivery through a regionally structured, multi-disciplinary organisation and relationships with supply chain design organisations. NRDD bring a range of different specialisations including Signalling, E&P, LV, B&C and Track Design that complement each other to add value and improve the overall diverse service offering.

Main Responsibilities

Accountable for the delivery of engineering solutions to the required cost, time, and quality in line with Corporate Governance, Company Standards, and procedures.

  • Control the development and management of appropriate engineering design solutions in accordance with company policies, standards, and specifications, resulting in schemes that are affordable, and meet programme requirements for time, cost and quality.
  • Ability to undertake the role of Contractors Responsible Engineer or Contractors Engineering Manager CRE / CEM to deliver project requirements.
  • Maintain and increase teams engineering competencies to deliver design outputs to the appropriate level of business performance.
  • Design, Check, Review and Approve deliverables within the individual’s area of competence to deliver project requirements.
  • Prepare and Deliver projects (including the supply chain usage) demonstrating a clear understanding of the project remit to achieve client requirements.
  • Monitor the progress of design delivery, identifying change and implementing change control process in line with business requirements to deliver project requirements (including the supply chain).
  • Maintain an effective & efficient interface with colleagues in the Engineering Services, Routes, Regions, and supply chain to secure resources to meet programme commitments in line with business requirements.
  • Authorise safety documentation and review risk assessments for site works produced by the team.
  • Control and maintain the team resource plan to provide effective resource planning, collaborating with other design team resources to meet business demand.
  • Provide the professional leadership and design team management of all staff under area of control including 1-1s, objective setting and Authority to Work.

Essential

  • Professional Engineering qualification (CEng / IEng / IRSE Eng Mgr)
  • Engineering / Design management experience.
  • Resource planning and estimating skills.
  • Knowledge of industry standards.
  • Multi-disciplinary design and consultancy experience.
  • Proven ability to manage engineering design activities in a business environment with safety critical responsibility.
  • Awareness of financial and commercial systems.
  • Construction Design and Management (CDM) experience
