Description:

The University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre is seeking an Engineering Trainer/Coach specializing in Welding and Fabrication. This role is focused on the development, delivery, assessment, and coaching of engineering training for both apprenticeships and technical learners from Level 3 to Level 6.

The successful candidate will be responsible for hands-on workshop training as well as coaching apprentices in their workplace environments during the foundational training year. They will also deliver short CPD courses on welding techniques and develop curriculum content and assessment materials tailored to Government apprenticeship standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality technical training, coaching, and assessments in welding/fabrication engineering aligned with apprenticeship standards.

  • Teach CPD welding courses and maintain standards of professional learning.

  • Conduct learner progress reviews and workplace assessments.

  • Design curriculum content and assessment materials using innovative, engaging methods.

  • Develop and facilitate enrichment activities to enhance learner experience.

  • Support procurement needs related to training (e.g., tools and equipment).

  • Monitor learner progress and provide feedback to employers and management.

  • Integrate Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare themes such as British Values and Prevent into training.

  • Actively participate in STEM promotion, learner recruitment, and induction events.

  • Attend required training and maintain continuous professional development.

  • Assist in the roll-out of institutional policies and participate in safeguarding procedures.

Requirements:

Essential:

  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in engineering (BTEC/NVQ/C&G/HNC) or equivalent industrial experience.

  • Strong experience in welding/fabrication engineering.

  • Effective communication, organization, and time management skills.

  • Willingness to undertake a teaching or assessor qualification (if not already held).

Desirable:

  • Experience developing and delivering learning programs using diverse teaching methods.

  • Understanding of the Common Inspection Framework related to Teaching and Learning.

Work Arrangement:

  • Full-time, reporting to the Head of Skills

  • Grade 7 post

  • Location: AMRC Training Centre (off-site visits included)
