Description:
LHH is seeking a skilled Environmental Engineer to join a leading steel producer in North-East England. This is a hands-on role ideal for individuals who want to be actively involved in ensuring environmental compliance while driving meaningful environmental improvements on-site.
In this role, you will act as the primary on-the-ground specialist for all environmental matters, supporting operational teams to maintain compliance, reduce risks, and enhance environmental performance. You will ensure that all legal obligations and site permits are met, closely monitoring and reporting on key environmental aspects such as air quality, emissions, water, and waste management. Collaboration with the Environment Agency, internal departments, and other stakeholders will be central to your responsibilities.
You will also participate in forward-thinking projects aimed at delivering long-term environmental benefits, ensuring that sustainability is embedded in day-to-day operations. Your ability to provide practical solutions, coupled with clear and effective communication, will help maintain strong working relationships across different levels of the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and maintain compliance with UK environmental regulations and site permits.
Monitor, measure, and report environmental performance metrics, including air quality, emissions, water usage, and waste management.
Act as a key liaison with the Environment Agency and other regulatory bodies.
Provide guidance and support to operational teams on environmental best practices.
Contribute to and lead environmental improvement projects.
Maintain meticulous environmental documentation and records.
Requirements:
Degree in a STEM subject.
Solid knowledge of UK environmental regulations.
Practical, well-organised, and proactive work style.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience with ISO 14001, Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR), and collaboration with the Environment Agency is desirable (training available if required).
