Description:
Maldon District Council is seeking a qualified and experienced Environmental Health Practitioner to join its busy, multi-skilled Commercial team. The post holder will undertake a range of commercial activities, including food hygiene inspections, health and safety investigations, and skin piercing registrations, while managing a caseload of complex cases largely independently. The role involves providing technical advice, decision-making, and, where necessary, formal enforcement actions.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct programmed food hygiene inspections to meet annual targets.
Ensure the Council meets statutory obligations to protect public health and animal welfare.
Apply regulatory measures across food safety, health and safety, infectious disease, skin piercing, and animal welfare licensing.
Investigate accidents and incidents and implement remedial actions.
Monitor legislation and ensure Council systems comply with legal requirements.
Support the development and maintenance of the Commercial Team’s policies, procedures, and arrangements.
Manage key professional and technical relationships with external agencies and collaborate internally across departments.
Assist in reporting Commercial Team activities to relevant agencies, including HSE and FSA, and collate data for statutory returns.
Ensure timely completion of all statutory activities and service objectives.
Provide advice, training, coaching, and mentoring to support team development and succession planning.
Contribute to continuous service improvements to enhance customer satisfaction and service delivery.
Requirements:
Chartered or Registered Environmental Health Practitioner (CIEH).
Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience.
Strong knowledge of commercial environmental health functions, regulations, and best practices.
Ability to manage complex cases independently.
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organizational skills.
