Enfield Council is seeking a proactive and motivated Waste & Recycling Officer to join its Waste Services Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in shaping the borough’s approach to waste management and environmental sustainability. The successful candidate will work across the community, implementing, improving, and monitoring both new and existing waste and recycling services that help drive Enfield’s environmental objectives and contribute to London’s wider sustainability goals.
As a Waste & Recycling Officer, you will manage a busy and varied caseload, requiring exceptional organisational and communication skills. The position involves extensive public engagement—working directly with residents, contractors, and other stakeholders to promote waste minimisation and recycling initiatives. You will also play an essential role in transforming waste behaviours within the community, supporting the council’s drive to achieve both local and national recycling targets.
This role is ideal for a professional who thrives on variety, values sustainability, and enjoys community-focused work. You will be based at the Morson Road Depot, with duties extending across the borough. A full driving licence is required due to the mobile nature of the position.
Manage and prioritise a diverse caseload related to waste and recycling service delivery.
Engage with residents and contractors to resolve service issues and promote recycling initiatives.
Support the implementation of new waste reduction and recycling programmes across Enfield.
Conduct inspections, monitor service performance, and ensure compliance with environmental standards.
Deliver public engagement campaigns to raise awareness of sustainable waste management practices.
Maintain accurate records and reports using Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Work collaboratively within the Waste Services Team to achieve strategic objectives.
Act as a representative of Enfield Council when engaging with community groups and external partners.
Strong customer service and communication skills, with experience engaging the public.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
A “can-do” attitude with attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
A genuine passion for environmental sustainability and waste reduction.
Full UK driving licence (essential).
Competitive salary of £35,520 – £37,692 per annum (approximately £2,960 – £3,141 per month).
