Evaluation Advisor

 

Description:

The Environment Agency is seeking a part-time Evaluation Advisor to join the Evaluation team within the regulation and enforcement arm. This role focuses on evaluating how regulatory and enforcement interventions are delivered to protect and improve the environment. The Evaluation Advisor will apply analytical methods to complex datasets, interpret evidence, provide actionable recommendations, and communicate findings effectively to both internal teams and external partners.

This is a practical, applied evaluation role focused on delivering insights against existing frameworks rather than theory-heavy analysis. The post also includes an incident management role, with support and training provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse complex, often imperfect datasets to provide meaningful insights.

  • Apply appropriate analytical methods and interpret evidence for practical recommendations.

  • Engage with internal teams and external partners to understand evaluation needs.

  • Communicate findings clearly via reports and presentations.

  • Support applied evaluation to improve regulatory and enforcement effectiveness.

  • Undertake an incident management role alongside day-to-day duties.

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience.

  • Practical experience in data analysis and applied evaluation.

  • Familiarity with tools such as Excel, Power BI, R, or SPSS.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Independent, pragmatic, collaborative, and able to handle real-world complexity.

  • Curiosity about how evidence can drive environmental outcomes.

Desirable:

  • Experience with Environment Agency, government, or environmental datasets.

  • Awareness of the water industry or water policy context.

  • Experience communicating technical evidence to non-specialist audiences.
