Description:

The Legal Education Foundation (LEF), a progressive social justice funder, is seeking external advisors to join its Grants & Learning Committee. This role offers a rare opportunity to help shape a bold new five-year funding strategy worth £50 million, focused on empowering communities to use the law as a tool for justice, equity, and social change.

Advisors will play an important role in influencing how legal tools are used to drive systemic change during a critical period for human rights in the UK. The foundation is especially seeking individuals with lived experience and expertise in grassroots community campaigning, ensuring that decision-making reflects the perspectives of marginalised communities.

As a committee member, you will bring knowledge of grassroots mobilisation, activism, and community organising, particularly in areas such as housing, education, welfare, and equalities. You will work collaboratively with trustees and other external advisors, contributing to an inclusive, respectful decision-making environment.

Committee members will also engage in continuous learning around law, rights, and movement-building, further developing their skills and knowledge in the process.

Key Responsibilities:

• Actively contribute to shaping a £50 million legal empowerment strategy.

• Ensure grantmaking prioritises marginalised and underrepresented communities.

• Bring insights from grassroots activism to strengthen funding decisions.

• Participate in quarterly committee meetings (four half-day sessions per year, with at least two in-person).

• Engage in induction and preparatory sessions as required.
