Finance Officer

 

Description:

The Methodist Church is seeking a Finance Officer – Payroll for a 6-month fixed-term full-time role within its Connexional Team. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and efficient administration of payrolls for lay staff, ministers, and pensioners, supporting the financial integrity of the Church’s operations.

Working within a hybrid model (2 days in-office and 3 days remote), you will manage payroll activities in compliance with HMRC regulations, ensure timely remittance of payments, and provide accurate payroll information to internal and external stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer payrolls for lay staff, ministers, and pensioners, ensuring accuracy in tax codes, deductions, and entitlements.

  • Process payroll adjustments as instructed by HMRC, HR, circuit treasurers, and other clients.

  • Ensure all statutory and voluntary deductions are applied correctly and payments remitted promptly.

  • Prepare and post monthly payroll summaries to the nominal ledger and reconcile control and loan accounts.

  • Manage Real Time Information (RTI) submissions (FPS and EPS) to HMRC and handle tax code changes.

  • Reconcile and remit monthly payments to HMRC for income tax, National Insurance, and other recoveries.

  • Generate monthly debit statements and respond promptly to payroll-related queries from staff, ministers, and treasurers.

  • Provide accurate payroll data to HR, HMRC, and relevant government bodies as required.

You are a detail-oriented and reliable payroll professional with a strong sense of integrity and precision. You have a proven ability to manage multiple payroll processes efficiently and ensure full compliance with statutory requirements.

You are also an excellent communicator who can respond to queries with professionalism and empathy, while collaborating effectively with colleagues and volunteers across the Methodist Church.
