Description:

Lucy Walker Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a prestigious North Yorkshire-based client for the role of Finance Assistant on a maternity cover contract. This pivotal position plays an essential role within an education organisation, ensuring the smooth and accurate management of accounting processes related to both parent and pupil ledgers.

The Finance Assistant will be responsible for managing termly billing processes, recording and monitoring payments, and following up on aged debtors to maintain the organisation’s financial health. The role involves considerable contact with parents, requiring strong customer service skills alongside solid numeracy and organisational capabilities.

This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, throughout the year. The successful candidate will benefit from free onsite parking and the opportunity to join a professional and supportive team. The anticipated start date is 30th June 2025.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage termly fee runs by producing accurate invoices for parents.

  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of scholarships, bursaries, and related financial arrangements.

  • Accurately record payments received on the ledger.

  • Process direct debit and standing order payments, ensuring they are posted correctly in the system.

  • Respond promptly to financial queries from parents and manage debt recovery plans when necessary.

  • Prepare final accounts for pupils who have left the organisation.

  • Liaise closely with Admissions and Marketing departments to ensure deposits and new pupil data are recorded accurately.

Skills & Knowledge Requirements:

  • Good numeracy skills, ideally with GCSE qualifications in Maths and English at Grade A-C.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to handle frequent parent contact professionally.

  • High standards of customer service and the ability to build positive relationships.

  • Strong administrative skills with meticulous attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive data with maturity and discretion.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team with a proactive, ‘can do’ attitude.

  • Experience in bookkeeping and previous experience in a similar finance or credit control role is highly desirable.
