Fire Engineer

Buro Happold, one of the world’s most respected consultancies in engineering and design, is looking for a Fire Engineer to join its Edinburgh team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative projects in a collaborative and inclusive environment while driving forward best-in-class fire safety solutions.

As a Fire Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in project managing fire engineering projects, supporting architectural and functional design aspirations, and ensuring compliance with fire and life safety standards. You will work closely with clients, internal teams, and external stakeholders to deliver technically robust, innovative, and practical fire engineering solutions for UK-based projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage fire engineering projects, ensuring technical and financial objectives are achieved.

• Support building design aspirations by integrating fire safety considerations into design processes.

• Provide consultancy and client care throughout the lifecycle of projects.

• Oversee financial performance of projects including invoicing and budget monitoring.

• Represent Buro Happold at internal and external design team meetings.

• Identify and specify appropriate fixed fire protection systems (detection and suppression).

• Conduct and review fire engineering calculations, including smoke modelling and evacuation analysis, using both manual and advanced 3D computational modelling (CFD experience desirable but not essential).

Candidate Requirements:

• Higher education qualification in engineering or fire safety-related discipline.

• Strong professional experience in fire and life safety design and delivery.

• Proven success in achieving approval for prescriptive and performance-based design solutions with relevant authorities.

• Excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
