Firmware Design Engineer

Beyond Blood Diagnostics is a dynamic med-tech startup focused on leveraging microfluidic systems to test for blood biomarkers needed for effective monitoring of chemotherapy patients. As an embedded systems/firmware design engineer, you will play a crucial role in developing firmware solutions that will enhance prototype capabilities while adhering to medical device standards.

The Role:

• We are looking for an experienced embedded systems/firmware engineer to work on early prototype development.

• Full-time permanent position based in central London. Must be able to come to offices at least 3 days per week or more as needed.

Key responsibilities include:

• Work with interdisciplinary team of biologists and engineers to design and test embedded systems solutions for a medical device prototype

• Develop firmware for control of various peripheral devices along with high-speed data capture within a cohesive working detection system

Preferred skills and experience:

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronic engineering or related field.
• Masters/PhD preferred
• Minimum of 3 years (2 with relevant PhD) of relevant industry experience in developing and debugging firmware/embedded systems

• Proficiency in C,C++,Python,Rust, or other relevant programming language

• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills

• Ability to work well in a small, interdisciplinary team environment

• Knowledge of hardware and basic electrical engineering (schematic design, PCB layout, test equipment, etc.)

• Experience with serial communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, CAN, UART, etc

• Experience using FPGA technologies and their coding tools (e.g.VHDL, Verilog)

• Some Familiarity working within product regulation (e.g. ISO 13485)

• A high level of ambition to succeed in a fast paced and intellectually challenging

environment.
