Description:

Capital Group is seeking a Fundamental Research Group (FRG) Associate specializing in the Financials sector to join its London office. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to one of the world’s most respected investment management firms, delivering long-only investment strategies grounded in rigorous, bottom-up fundamental research.

As an FRG Associate, you will work side-by-side with seasoned Investment Professionals to support the investment process by analyzing banks and diversified financial institutions. Your responsibilities will span idea generation, financial modeling, research writing, and engaging with company management, sell-side firms, and industry experts. Over time, you’ll take on more complex projects and receive structured mentorship to grow your research capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth, bottom-up research on banks and diversified financials to support long-only equity investment decisions

  • Partner with Investment Professionals to generate new ideas, monitor existing investments, and present well-supported recommendations

  • Build and maintain detailed financial models and visualizations to support equity analysis

  • Analyze regulatory filings, trade publications, market data, and industry trends to derive actionable insights

  • Attend meetings with company management, external consultants, and sell-side analysts to refine your investment view

  • Create and deliver written reports and presentations for internal stakeholders

  • Participate in the investment process, growing your contribution over time under the guidance of senior professionals

  • Travel occasionally for research trips to meet with management teams and global investment colleagues

Key Requirements:

  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in equity research, investment banking, consulting, accounting, or a related area

  • Passion for equity research and long-term fundamental investing

  • Deep knowledge of the financial sector, particularly banks and diversified financial firms

  • Strong quantitative and analytical abilities; experience in financial modeling and valuation techniques

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to thrive in team-oriented environments

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, STEM, or a closely related field

  • Intellectual curiosity and the ability to distill complex financial data into compelling insights

  • Willingness to receive and act on feedback to continually improve performance

Nice to Have:

  • Familiarity with programming languages (Python, SQL, R)

  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI)

  • Knowledge of cloud-based data platforms (Amazon S3, Snowflake, Databricks)
